I'm about to start my term on the Eureka City Council. I started this blog in the hope of getting input from others in the community as I start out on this adventure. I know there are Eurekans out there who want some of the change I do for our city, since I was elected. The trick now is to bring us together to support the things I can do on the council to make Eureka a better place.
I'm going to start out my term with a proposal that should be fairly easy to implement, an expansion of our community garden program. In the current economic times, I think it'd be great if we can start growing more of our own food here at home. The people here who are on the edge economically have probably already fallen off that edge into hunger and desperation. Gardens would make a small dent in one part of this issue and are something that can be accomplished on a shoestring and some sweat! I've already found a few available plots of City land to work on getting on board for this, as well as expanding our current garden over on Harrison.
I'll need community support to get this through the council and to make it a reality by getting donations of labor and materials to make this a reality.
